How this site works, and how we get paid
Referral sites usually bury this. We would rather you read it before you fill anything in.
We are not a plumbing company
Ottawa Poly-B does not hold a plumbing licence, does not employ tradespeople and will never turn up at your house. We publish guides about Poly B and Kitec replacement for Ottawa homeowners, and we run a form that puts your project in front of the one contractor on our list best suited to it.
What happens after you submit the form
Your details go to one contractor
They get what you entered: area, house type, age, bathroom count, basement finish, what prompted the enquiry, your timeline and your contact details.
They contact you directly
Usually within one business day, by phone, text or email. From that point the relationship is between you and them. Any contract, deposit, warranty or dispute is theirs and yours, not ours.
We are paid a referral fee
The contractor pays us for the introduction. The fee does not depend on the size of your job, and it is not added to your quote as a line item — it is a marketing cost to them, the same as advertising.
Nothing else happens
One contractor and then the form closes for your address. We do not resell enquiries to lead brokers or add you to unrelated marketing.
Why one contractor and not three
Plenty of referral sites promise three quotes. In practice that means three walkthroughs to book, three people in your basement, and three prices scoped differently enough that they do not actually compare. We would rather send your details once, to the company on our list that suits your house, your timeline and your basement — and be honest that this is one introduction, not a bidding process.
You are not stuck with it. If the quote looks wrong, or the company never called, tell us and we will introduce you to another. And nothing stops you calling other plumbers yourself — our cost page lists the questions to put to any of them.
How contractors get on the list
To receive referrals a company must hold a valid Ontario plumbing licence, carry liability insurance and WSIB coverage, take on whole-home repiping as regular work, and respond to homeowners promptly. We ask for proof of the first two and we re-check them.
What we do not do is inspect their job sites or verify every claim they make to you. We are an introduction, not a certification. Check references, get the scope in writing, and do not pay large deposits up front.
The conflict of interest, stated plainly
We are paid when you become a lead, which gives us an incentive to nudge you toward replacement. So here is the other side: plenty of Poly B is still working, replacement is expensive, and if your insurer has no concerns and the pipe has never leaked, waiting is a legitimate choice. We would rather be the site you trusted than the site that got you once.
If something goes wrong
Tell us. If a contractor we referred you to was unprofessional, quoted one number and billed another, or never called you back, email hello@ottawapolyb.com. Complaints affect whether they keep getting referrals — which is the only real leverage we have.
For work quality or licensing complaints, the Ontario College of Trades framework, your municipal building department and the Better Business Bureau are the routes with actual teeth.
